Who I saw at the Taste last night

All the excuses why I didn't say hello

1. EJ - She was walking towards the stage to take Angelo's picture. What was I supposed to do? interrupt her?
2. Angelo - He was looking straight ahead like he was on a mission. What if I distracted him and he lost his concentration?
3. Jane - She was talking to a young girl and they looked deep in happy conversation. It's kind of rude to just butt in.
4. Melissa - I wasn't sure it was really her, and she was enjoying the music. What if it wasn't her?
5. David - He was walking too fast. Wouldn't it look really dumb to just run after him? Wouldn't it have looked kind of psycho?
6. Cinta - She was on stage.

Okay, I was shy. Wednesday for sure.

You're right, you had no choice. You would either have been rude or crazy.

This shyness/anxiety stuff is tough.

I could kick myself everytime I do that.

I didn't see you. I was probably talking with either my daughter (who was extremely upset--she's in Te Kanehau Nui, and they were supposed to dance, but canceled at the last minute--and she didn't get the word, so she showed up in her coconut bra, carrying her ti leaf hipster and other stuff in a laundry basket) or I might have been chatting with her little sister/friend, who came along to watch.

I saw Melissa, but didn't hang out much at the stage, so missed all of the rest of you.

Are you shy? Why?

I'm not the most sociable person, and I rarely go up to people to chat, but I'll always say hi back.

You should realize that people enjoy talking with you. (I'm not sure that's always the case with me!)

Did you have fun? I thought this was the best of the Taste's I'd been to. Possibly the mango margarita...

Ok, it doesn't help that Deece (who is shy) is comforting/reassuring Boni for being shy. See where this is all heading...to Shyville Town. Come on guys, be a stalker. It's ok. Actually when people look "busy" I think it's their way of trying to not look like their bored or alone. :)

I knew Steve would say that because the "Counselor Me" (heal thyself?) was thinking the same thing. Deece my friend, we are enabling one another:(

Jane: You are very approachable, I know this to be true. I am shy and I don't know why. Steve? Can you help here?

If us shy people can't hide behind eachother, how else are we going to let our anxiety continue to consume us?

Boni, if we are out somewhere and spot eachother from across the way, let's just look away, meander around like we've got somewhere to go and then we'll meet in the middle. Once we're standing face to face we can say, "oh my goodness, hi, I thought that was you, but I wasn't sure."

Oh, and Steve, I'm working on it. Lately I've been commenting on blogs of people I don't know.

I know, it's not the same thing as saying hello in person. But I like to tell myself that it's progress.

LOL! Oh my gosh, wouldn't that be a sight? Systematic desensitization strategy: we will, both knowing we can say hello, but can't, progressively inch our way towards a greeting. OK! BTW Mr. Steve, I've seen you get shy in a crowd and not say hello to me! Or were you trying to avoid me before we made eye contact? Oh the anxiety!

YES, it was me!! And if I had seen you or Deece, I would have run screaming at you, saying HEEEEYYYY in a really loud voice... maybe that would have helped with your shyness. Yeah. Sure. I think the last time I was shy was when I was a toddler, so I don't really understand 'shy' but I respect it. I hope to be there Wed, so no excuses then!
