To my best friend who ABANDONED me

Friendship is like peeing in your pants. Everyone can see it, but only you can feel the true warmth!!

Mom: Sommer, go to sleep and quit poking me in the face.
Mom: Sommy, do you want me to be angry with you?
Sommer: Nooooo. I'm soooo sooorry. Don't be angry with me!
Mom: Do you know what angry means?
Sommer: Means maaad.
Mom: Yes, it means mad, poking my face makes me angry because it hurts. Please stop baby.
Sommer: OK, mommy. Mommy?
Mom: Yes, my baby?
Sommer: Never walk away angry.
Mom: Who told you that?
Sommer: I told you that!

Stage Moms

I took our school champion to the Scripps Howard Spelling Bee last week and saw something appalling. One of the mothers of the contestants actually had the poster of the 69 kids in the contest and as each student got eliminated she would scratch out their face on the poster. If this weren't bad enough, she was sitting in the front row in full view of the parents of other students. No one said anything to her, but I wanted to take her outside for a little "talk". I don't know why I'm writing about this, but it's been on my mind for days. Isn't there a better way to support our kids. I wonder how her poor daughter felt after getting eliminated. I didn't look to see if she crossed her own child off the list, I think I just put my head down in fear she would do something aweful to her. It should be noted though, that apples really don't fall far from trees. After exiting the stage and getting her participatory ribbon, her daughter promptly and quite rudely took it off her neck in defiance for losing. Hmmmm.... Lord, make me a better parent and help me to never teach my children that the prize is always only extrinsic.

OKAY! Since my best friend (Ch!) left me several months ago, I've basically kept myself busy reading. Reading's not a bad thing, I love reading. I usually reserve reading for airplanes and the occasional visit to CHC, you know, places where it takes hours to get anywhere/get anything done. Here's my reading list since January:

My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult
Night by Elie Weisel
The Pact by Jodi Picoult
The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion
Talking With by Jane Martin
For Laci by Sharon Rocha

My brain feels good, and it's helped me relax a bit, but it doesn't beat a margarita and Ton's famous hamburger dip. Yeah, I can hear you all the way in Texas laughing at me. I guess what I'm saying is that it's hard keeping my brain busy. My best friend (ch!) usually did that for me and that's really no small task if you know me. Anyways, I'm waiting for my next book, I think I'll either read Dry or Choke next. I don't see any hamburger dip on the horizon...
